Im April 2016 hat ein Facebook-Nutzer, offenbar Anhänger einer österreichischen Partei, die sich mit blauer Farbe schmückt (obwohl ihr braun besser stünde), die Grünen-Bundessprecherin Eva Glawischnig in einem Posting als “Volksverräterin” bezeichnet. Frau Glawischnig erwirkte vom Handelsgericht Wien eine einstweilige Verfügung, daß Facebook dieses Posting löchen müsse. (more…)

Recently I was drawn into two similar, strange discussions in one day.
First, in a conversation about taking pictures and filming in public church services someone said that being photographed or filmed during worship was irritating, since worship was such an intimate thing that it was almost like being photographed or filmed during sex.

Kürzlich wurde ich an einem Tag gleich zweimal in eine seltsame Debatte verwickelt.
Zuerst fiel in einem Gespräch über Foto- und Videoaufnahmen in öffentlichen Gottesdiensten die Aussage, es wäre unangenehm, während des Lobpreises fotografiert oder gefilmt zu werden, denn das sei eine so intime Angelegenheit, es wäre fast, als würde man beim Sex fotografiert werden. (more…)

I am afraid this hymn, and the feast of All Saints (or more specifically, the distinction between All Saints and All Souls) demonstrates a couple of reasons why, despite the very welcome increasing reconciliation between the churches as well as individual Christians, I will not “swim the Tiber” (or the Bosporus, for that matter) any time soon. Im heutigen profil wird in der Kolumne “#brodnig” unter dem Titel “25 $ und Ihre Daten bitte” ein Angebot des amerikanischen Lebensversicherers John Hancock kritisiert, bei dem Versicherte um $25 eine Apple Watch erhalten, die sie so lange um diesen Preis behalten können, wie sie regelmäßig, von der Watch dokumentiert, Sport betreiben. Sollten sie aufgeben, wird eine an den tatsächlichen Preis der Uhr gekoppelte Pönalezahlung fällig. Außerdem, und auch das wird kritisiert, bietet das Unternehmen schon länger günstiger Tarife für Menschen an, die entsprechend Sport betreiben und sich gesund ernähren.

When I grew up so called chain letters circulated at our school, which one was supposed to copy and forward to five or ten other people; if one complied one was promised good luck and riches, but if one failed to comply and thus broke the chain one was threatened with bad luck and all sorts of disasters and mishaps.
